Dental Hygiene in East London – For Better Health
Dental statistical researchers have found a strong relationship between dental care, specifically gum disease and some health conditions.
The term is normally known as the mouth-body connection. It has been seen that some diseases like diabetes, cancer, increased risk of heart disease, below weight new-born birth, premature birth and so on are connected with gum disease.
It is also reported that proper dental care can reduce the chance of getting these diseases and helps to deal a healthy life.
Oral and dental hygiene refers to the practice of keeping your mouth healthy and clean by following regular and correct brushing and flossing routines. This helps to prevent the formation of plaque, which is the sticky film of bacteria that forms on the hard surfaces of teeth, leading to dental decay and gum disease.
What are the symptoms of improper dental hygiene?
- Bleeding or painful gums.
- Persistent bad breath.
- Yellow or brown deposits on teeth.
- Loose teeth and widening gaps between teeth.
At UltraSmile*, we are passionate about providing excellent Oral Health care.
Oral health awareness and educating our patients about their oral health is extremely important to us.
Maintaining high standards of good oral health hygiene is what will determine how long you keep your teeth in your mouth. Often the loss of teeth is associated with elderly people, however teeth can be lost at any age if poor oral hygiene is evident.
Whilst following preventative measures, a professionally led oral hygiene routine and a regular visit to a dental therapist, will give you confidence that you can keep your teeth for longer.
There is also a proven link between your oral health and your overall health. Researchers have shown oral health has been linked with Diabetes, Strokes, Heart Disease and problems relating to pregnancy.
Oral hygiene treatments performed by your UltraSmile* dental therapists and hygienists consists of thorough cleaning with special instruments called scalers, enabling the therapist or hygienist to gain access to clean areas a toothbrush does not reach and remove deposits of scale.
If required, to remove deposits of stain on the surfaces and between the teeth, your therapist will use and electric toothbrush with a gritty, polish.
Your UltraSmile* therapist or hygienist will ensure that you are using correct brushing and flossing techniques, and that the correct oral health products are recommended for your individual needs.
Extensive Hygiene Treatment
Where preventative hygiene routines have not been maintained and gingivitis has developed into periodontitus, you may need a more extensive scaling treatment from the dental therapist, additional techniques and instruments will be used to remove the plaque and tartar which forms in the periodontal pockets. Often this treatment requires several appointments at the clinic.
As this is a more invasive treatment, your UltraSmile* therapist or hygienist may require you to have local anesthetic into your gums prior to the scaling, enabling a thorough clean, whilst all feelings in the area are temporarily blocked during treatment.
Measurements of the pockets will be taken each time by the therapist and monitored over the appointments to ensure the treatment is successful and the condition has not deteriorated.
Teeth and gum disease are entirely preventable with regular visits to UltraSmile*, our dental professionals can identify these diseases early and develop a treatment plan tailored to your individual needs, preventing costly dental treatments and loss of teeth.
